1. Poverty, Gender and Rural Development: A Case Study of Orissa, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and West Bengal
The project is proposed to be supported by the Planning Commission. This project will study the complexities of the problem of poverty in terms of understanding the gender dimensions in the context of rural development programmes. The project is proposed by Suranjita Ray and N Sukumar.
2. Cities in Globalization: A Case Study of Ahmedabad
The project seeks to study political, economic and spatial changes in cities in India in the wake of globalization. The project headed by Neera Chandhoke, takes up Ahmedabad as a case study given its globalized and conflict ridden character. |

1.Conflict and Institutional Change in India
The project was headed by Neera Chandhoke and supported by DESTIN, London School of economics and Political Science, London. It formed a part of the Crisis States Programme of DESTIN and produced a project report, and a number of papers published in international journals. A book on the same theme is proposed.
2. Project on Homeless People
dcrc in collaboration with V.V. Giri, National Labour Institute is carrying out the Project on Homeless and Labour Process in Mega Cities. Prof. Naveen Chandra from NLI and Dr. M.N. Thakur were the supervisors of the project.
3. Poverty Eradication Project
Poverty Eradication and Local Institutions: Comparative Study of Kalahandi, Chittoor and Bhojpur' was supported by the Planning Commission, New Delhi. Dr. G.K. Arora, Dr. G. N. Trivedi, Mr. N. Sukumar, Dr. Suranjita Ray and Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty were involved in this project. The field work was carried between August 2002 - July 2003 that resulted in in depth analysis of poverty eradication programmes in the selected states. The final project report was submitted to the Planning Commission and a book manuscript is under preparation.
4. Rights, Representation and the Poor
'Rights, Representation and the Poor: Comparing Large Developing Democracies, India, Brazil and Mexico' was completed in March 2004. The main thrust of the project was to analyse the impact of economic liberalisation and globalisation on the poor in the developing world with special reference to India. Directed by Neera Chandhoke, the project was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex. A series of research papers published in international journals resulted from the project.
