Human Right Programme
Beginning with the Human Rights Day celebrations in 1996 the DCRC launched a programme of research, teaching, monitoring and documentation on Human Rights. This includes seminars on aspects of Human Rights jointly organized with Daulat Ram College (1998, 2000, 2002) and Satyawati College (2001) and a Teachers' workshop under the auspices of the UGC in 2000.
4.
Cinema as Social Science Text
This programme attempts to see films as social science texts and bring insights from cinema into the research engagements of the centre. Although most students of social sciences are also avid watchers of cinema and it constitutes a favourite site for informal discussion and debate, there has been little attempt at bringing insights from cinema into their engagement with their own research problems in the classroom and projects. If at all, this engagement has been confined to social scientists who have made films as their field of study in the new disciplinary formation of film studies. A series of films on the theme of “Politics of Violence” has been screened and discussed under the programme.
