Fifteenth Grassroots Politics Colloquium
14-15 February 2004
The Fifteenth Annual Grassroots Politics Colloquium was organised on 14th and 15th Feb 2004 on the theme ‘Poverty, Violence and Underdevelopment : A Grassroot Perspective’.
       Dealing with the issue of poverty alleviation, the 15th GPC contributed greatly in a comprehensive understanding of poverty in developing societies.
      Scholars,activists,academicians from various parts of the country participated in the colloquium.
      The discussion generated considerable debate projecting a multi-dimensional understanding of the issue.The seminar articulated the various facets of poverty and the initiatives for dealing with it under the guidance of case studies of three districts-Kalahandi, Bhojpur, Chittoor under the structural-political approach.
   
Fourteenth Grassroots Politics Colloquium
14-15 February 2004
 
        Issues relating to viability of liberal political institution, role of the Third Sector, role of International Funding Agencies and the problems of Grassroots Movement were discussed in the colloquium.
          Intellectuals and activists presented papers and initiated discussions on various themes related to grassroots politics. Dr. Nivedita Menon spoke on Grassroot Movements of Labour and Mr. Bijoy discussed his experiences of tribal movement in Alirajpur on the first day.
              On the second day, Dr. M.N. Thakur spoke on Creative Theory and people’s assertion from below. Dr. Satyajit Singh shared his experiences of Panchayati Raj Institutions in U.P. hills and argued for a balanced positioning of the state in order to distinguish between ‘grassroots movement’ and ‘grassroots politics’.
               In all, the two days colloquium saw an enriched and consensual approach emerging among dcrc members to examine Grassroots Politics in the new environment of globalized world.
    
 
 
The Fourteenth Grassroots Politics Colloquium (GPC) on ‘Tribals and Displacement’ was organised from 14 - 15 February 2003.
Dr. R. Vashum presented the theme paper on the issues concerning tribals and displacement. The thrust of the two-day dialogue was to bring in the experiences from around the country on the issue concerned. A need was felt to evolve an alternative paradigm of development which is sensitive to people’s experiences.
        The colloquium was also enlivened by a special reflexive session on the World Social Forum and Asian Social Forum.
   
Thirteenth Grassroots Politics Colloquium
15-16 March 2002
       The Thirteenth Annual Grassroots Politics Colloquium on ‘Approaching Grassroots: Prospect and Retrospect’ was organised from 15-16 March 2002. An attempt was made to evaluate the theoretical and practical dimensions of grassroot politics in the changing context of Globalization and the mushrooming growth of the so-called Third Sector (the NGOs). Mr. Hilal Ahmed presented a background paper on dcrc’s approach on the Grassroots Politics and set the tempo for further discussion on the issue.
 
Twelfth Grassroots Politics Colloquium
20-21 March 2001
The Twelfth Grassroots Politics Colloquium organized from 20-21 March 2001 covered the theme of ‘Rights of Disabled: Voices, Issues and Concern’. The participants in the colloquium attempted to comprehend a range of psychological and political challenges including the problem of accessibility to public space that is faced by the (dis)abled. Dr. Anita Ghai deliberated on the inter-linkages between different dimensions of disability and convergence of public policies. The Twelfth Grassroots Politics Colloquium thus set a fresh tone to look at the problems and the rights of the disabled.
Eleventh Grassroots Politics Colloquium
18-19 April 2000
The theme of the Eleventh Grassroots Politics Colloquium organised from 18-19 April 2000 was ‘Indian Labour:New Agenda for the Millenium’. Several issues concerning labour in the context of development discourse and globalization were brought in by the participants which included Mr. Ashim Roy, Ms. Sudha Bhardwaj, Ms. Indu Agnihotri and Ms. Indrani Mazumdar.
